First place award for features and a first place award for feature photography from the Society of Professional Journalists’ Kansas City Press Club Heart of America Journalism Awards, 2003.  Magazine Enterprise award from the Kansas City Association of Black Journalists, 2003. Two-first place awards and one-second-place award for column and investigative pieces from the National Association of Hispanic Publications, 2002.
